2011 PTIN Applications & Renewals Now Available
PTIN renewal for the coming tax season is now available. The 2011 system was made operational October 20th. All paid tax return preparers must obtain or renew Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN). If you have a PTIN that was issued in 2010, the renewal fee is $63.00. If you are applying for the first time, the initial application fee is $64.25.
New this year: PTIN applicants will see questions on the online PTIN system asking if they are a “supervised preparer” or “non-1040 preparer”. Supervised preparers will need to enter the PTIN of their supervisor. This must be a CPA, Attorney or Enrolled Agent, and they must be signing all of the returns the “supervised preparer” has a hand in completing.
Visit the IRS PTIN website or contact your account representative for assistance in obtaining a PTIN for the coming tax season or renewing an existing PTIN.
