California Tax Preparer CTEC Deadline Warning

To all California tax preparers:

Stay up-to-date with CTEC renewal deadlines. Sunday the 15th is the last day to renew your CRTP license with CTEC for the coming season! Preparers with access to our California renewal package should verify that they have obtained five (5) hours of California credits, and fifteen (15) hours of Federal credits with at least two (2) of those in the Ethics category. Credit reporting is essentially instantaneous once entered into CTEC’s records, so verify and take any missing credits before the deadline! Failure to renew your CRTP with CTEC will result in you becoming a “new” preparer and therefore requiring you to take the sixty (60) hour course as though you had never registered in the first place!

All California tax preparers who do not already have their CRTP license must make sure to complete the credits, obtain their surety bond, and apply for the designation before preparing their first return.
