Changes to the Online PTIN User System
Why does it seem that just before something is fully functional and working well that it needs to be changed? The IRS has made several new changes and “improvements” to the online PTIN registration portal. Hopefully, these changes improve it’s capacity in registering and renewing preparers’ PTINs. Hopefully, there won’t be three weeks just before tax season where no one can get a new PTIN. It was a very flustering time.
The updated system is said to have added an error message for incorrect formatting, as well as a “copy from” button which should allow you to copy one address to the other address requirement. “Streamlined data entry for the supervisor PTIN and professional credential data round out the improvements” according to Accounting Today. Does that sound like a possible overemphasis on nothing? Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve been able to use the tab key for a while now.
Anyway, more improvements coming this fall. Stay tuned. Study up. Finish your RTRP and get your CE!
