Check Cashing Guidance
The last few days the IRS released its largest funding ever. While our systems are functioning properly there may be times over the next 24-48 hours where delays are experienced due to high traffic on our Interactive Voice Response (IVR) check verification system. In order to streamline your customer’s experience with tax check cashing, we’d like to recommend some alternatives to the IVR so you can avoid tax refund check cashing delays.
Recommendations for cashing checks that have not been verified:
As you issue checks to your clients we recommend you ask them to do the following:
-
Encourage clients to cash their tax return checks at Walmart as they have a direct connection to our system for check cashing verification.
-
If your client plans to visit another bank or tax check cashing establishment ask the check casher to verify the check using our website. This also has a direct connection to our system and bypasses the IVR.
If a check cashing establishment is unable to utilize the phone verification system due to high call volume we recommend hanging up and using verify.sbtpg.com. If that is not an option for them, they can call the IVR system again but may experience a delay for the next 24-48 hours.
Recommendations for cashing checks that have been verified:
Normally, for the taxpayer’s protection, once a check has been verified in our system it cannot be verified a second time.
**The verified check cannot be cashed at Walmart. If a client has a check that was issued on Feb. 22nd or 23rd and has been verified, they may visit another check cashing establishment. The check casher should call the number on the front of the check, and a live agent can verify the check manually for those checks only.
We appreciate your patience as we experience unusually high call volume. For more tax guidance, explore our blog or contact us today!
