Important 2012 Form Changes on 8812, 8867 & 8863
The IRS has recently made changes to various forms that are not related to the upcoming legislation. Several forms that relate to the Additional Child Tax Credit and Education Credits have been updated to include questions for verification of the claim for the credit. The Education Credit Form 8863 now includes entries for the institution’s name, address and EIN. The 8812 for Child Tax Credit now includes questions relating to ITIN holding dependents that may or may not live in the U.S. The 8867, Paid Preparer’s EIC Checklist, will now include questions pertaining to the existence of schedule C income, disability of qualifying children, and the residency of qualified children. The aim of these changes is to promote efficient preparation with fewer errors that result is erroneously distributed funds.
