Windows Transition

Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system turns 10 years old this month! While this has been the “go-to” operating system for many years, Microsoft has decided to end the operating system’s support in January of 2020. Once this happens, Microsoft will no longer be providing technical assistance or software updates for Windows 7, including security updates. Here at Federal Direct Tax Services, we recommend our partners upgrade to Windows 10. However, we will still continue to offer full support for Windows 7 for the foreseeable future. Any computers running Windows 7 will continue to function normally. Additionally, any computer that Federal Direct Tax Services has completed an install on should have a third-party antivirus program installed called Symantec Endpoint Protection. Symantec will continue to operate and receive updates even if installed on Windows 7, which will help those systems to maintain security.

We understand that many of our offices are all operating on Windows 7 currently and may need to switch operating systems for enhanced security and reliability.  In order to facilitate the transition, we are offering a Windows Transition Solution. This will allow you to send us your laptop or computer tower and we will have our technical support team update your OS to Windows 10 for $100 (each). That $100 includes the new OS license, labor, & shipping of your computer back to you. For security reasons, we believe this is a good idea, and we want to make the switch as easy as possible. Alternatively, if you would like to purchase a new computer that is ready to go with the updated OS, ready for tax season, the cost is $400.
